Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto has announced that the car driver Apriyani Susanti, who was involved in a fatal car accident that took the lives of nine people and injured four others, was not in possession of a license and was speeding when the accident took place.

“We have taken statements from her. She has admitted that she had no license when the accident took place. In fact, her driving license expired long ago,” Rikwanto said as quoted by tempo.co.

He said Apriyani had also admitted that the car was going at approximately 100 km/hour when it plowed into a group of people yesterday. He added that Apriyani also stated that the car was not hers.

“Thus she drove a rental car, had no license and was under the influence of drugs when the accident took place,” Rikwanto said.

Apriyani has been named as suspect in a reckless driving charge and along with the other three passengers of illegal drug use. (dic)
