Jasa Raharja to give Rp 25m to dead victims’ families

State-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja intends to provide Rp 25 million (US$2,800) as compensation to the families of the victims who died in the Gambir car crash.
“As stipulated in Law No. 34/1964 and the 18/1985 Presidential Decree, [the compensation will be given] to the next of kin [of the victims] such as spouses, or if they were unmarried then to their parents,” Martinus Wae from Jasa Raharja said on Monday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said that for the injured victims there would be compensation of up to a maximum Rp 10 million.
He said that the insurance company was currently identifying the bodies of the dead.
“Since yesterday we have been carrying out proper identification [of the victims],” he said.
The accident occurred when a car went out of control and plowed into a group of pedestrians. Nine were killed and three others are critically injured. (awd/dic)
