Perhaps no one will be able to stop the incensed members of the Indonesian Soccer Rescue Committee (KPSI), who have held a pre-congress meeting, from insisting on an extraordinary congress to oust the current Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) leadership.
The KPSI, comprising 542 members from the PSSI, held a pre-congress at the Swiss Bel Hotel in Jakarta on Saturday night where they decided several matters, including the organization of the amateur league and the aim to hold an extraordinary congress.
The most anticipated decision of the KPSI is the scheduled extraordinary congress in Surabaya on March 9, if by January 23 the PSSI fails to invite all its members for an extraordinary meeting.
In the pre-congress, which was attended by two members of the House of Representatives’ Commission X overseeing sports, Jamal Aziz and Zulfadli, and the deputy chairman of the Indonesian Sports Council (KONI) Sudirman, the KPSI also formed an election committee and an election-appeal committee for the extraordinary meeting.
KPSI secretary-general Hinca Panjaitan announced during the pre-congress that the election committee would be led by M. Abror (East Java), with members comprising Muhdar (Balikpapan), Jimmy Napitupulu (referee representative), La Siya (Persipura, Jayapura), Idris (PSMS Medan), TB Kun Adi (West Java), and Didik Darmadi (player representative).
The appeal committee, he said, would be led by Ahmad Riyadh (East Java), with members comprising M. Amin, Rully Nere, Johar Lin Eng (Central Java), Hendri Zainuddin (Sriwijaya FC), Purwanto (referee representative), Umuh Muchtar (Persib Bandung), Kadir Halid (Sulawesi), and Dwi Irianto (Yogyakarta).
Should the PSSI fail to invite all its members, the KPSI’s election committee and the appeal committee will start to prepare the extraordinary congress.
FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) sent a joint letter to the PSSI on Jan. 13 saying they were not in a position to comment on the KPSI’s request for an extraordinary congress. Both soccer bodies instead requested an extraordinary congress.
The KPSI has demanded that the PSSI hold an extraordinary congress in order to oust PSSI chairman Djohar, whom they deem has made decisions “violating PSSI statutes”.
KPSI chairman Toni Apriliani told detik.com on Saturday night that besides the aim to oust Djohar, the extraordinary congress would also demanded that the PSSI “recognize four members of the PSSI’s executive committee: La Nyalla Mattaliti, Roberto Rouw, Tony Apriliani and Erwin Dwi Budiawan, who were accused of ethical misconduct and summarily dismissed by the PSSI ethics committee”.
In response to the pre-congress meeting, PSSI chairman Djohar Arifin Husin said the soccer body would impose sanctions against those who were involved in the meeting, saying that the pre-congress was not recognized by either FIFA or the PSSI.
“It is clear from the [PSSI’s] statutes that members of the PSSI are not allowed to meet each other outside PSSI’s activities,” Djohar said as quoted by detik.com on Saturday. (mvm)
