The Jakarta Police say that they are questioning seven witnesses about the car crash that killed nine pedestrians in front of the PLN building in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.

“Four of the witnesses are local residents and the other three are the suspect’s friends who were in the car [during the accident],” Jakarta Police traffic directorate deputy director Adj. Sr. Comr. Wahyono said on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Wahyono said that more witnesses would be summoned if needed.

After a preliminary investigation, the police named Apriyani Susanti, the car’s driver, as suspect for reckless driving, while her three friends were named witnesses.

Investigators were also examining the possibility that one of the passengers deliberately allowed Apriyani, who did not have a driver’s license or the vehicle’s registration documents, to operate the car, Wahyono said.

Apriyani and her friends tested positive for alcohol and crystal methamphetimine. (awd/dic)
