The State Logistics Agency’s East Kalimantan branch has sold around 200 tons of rice since October 2011 in market operations to meet local demand.
The agency imported the rice from Vietnam.
Head of the Procurement and Market Price Analysis division at the East Kalimantan agency, Agus Rohman, said Tuesday that the government had to import the rice due to difficulties in procuring rice from local markets.
“We initially targeted to procure 10,000 tons of local rice in 2011 but that was difficult to achieve. So, we reduced the target to only 6,000 tons. But in the event, we only managed to procure 2,582 tons,” Agus said as quoted by kompas.com. (drs/mtq)
