Airport signals OK despite solar flare: Operator

A solar flare has yet to affect operations at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, the airport’s management says.

“Regular operations at the airport have been normal and without any disturbance,” said state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II technical operations director Salahudin Rafi on Thursday, as quoted by tempo.co.

“Hopefully the solar flare’s effect will not reach Indonesia,” he added.

However, the company has prepared for any problems involving disruptions to satellite and radar signals.
A solar flare reached the earth surface on Monday, forcing a number of airlines to cancel flights. Several airlines, such as Air Canada and Qantas, were enforced to take longer routes. (swd)
