A Malaysian investor has canceled plans to construct a hydropower plant in Air Besar, Landak regency, West Kalimantan, citing a lack of supporting infrastructure.
West Kalimantan Border Area Management and International Cooperation Agency head M.H. Munsin said the company complained of poor road infrastructure as one of the reason for canceling the investment plan.
“They were willing to build the hydropower plant using their own funding but were asking for thousands of hectares of land in return,” he said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
“I cannot meet their request so that, coupled with poor road infrastructure to the plant, led to them canceling the plan.”
Munsin said the hydropower plant would have provided electricity needed by the province.
“We are now waiting for the central government’s goodwill as I have shown the potentials and now it is up to the government to decide.” (drs)
