President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed four top officials to pursue and recover assets overseas that belong to troubled Bank Century.

The instruction was stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 9/2012, signed on Jan. 20.

In a copy of the instruction obtained by Kontan, the President told Law and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin, State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and Attorney General chief Basrief Arief to recover the assets suspected to be linked to the graft scandal centering around the government's decision to bail out the bank.

The regulation suggests that the asset recovery can be done through mutual legal assistance with the respective countries which harbor the assets.

The regulation also authorizes Amir Syamsuddin to directly appoint legal consultants to recover the assets.

It also authorizes the appointed ministers to form a supporting team to work under the direct coordination and supervision of Vice President Boediono.

Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said earlier that the government would recover Bank Century assets worth US$500 million in Hong Kong and US$160 million in Switzerland.
