State Secretariat spokesman Sugiri has denied allegations that more than Rp 12 billion (US$1.3 million) had been allocated for the construction of parking facilities at the State Palace.

“It’s not that much,” Sugiri said as quoted by tempo.co.

He said the Rp 12.5 billion bill was the amount recommended by the Public Works Ministry. “However, when we held a tender for the project, the winner, PT Adhicon Persada, proposed a lower figure of Rp 10.58 billion,” he said.

The project covers a two-level parking lot of 3,270 square meters in total along with a pray room and cooperative office as well as a park, he said.

The project was worked on from July to December 2011.

Previously, the National Secretariat of the Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (FITRA) slammed the government for allotting more than Rp 12 billion for the construction of the parking facilities.

The budget was four times more than the cost of a similar project at the House of Representatives compound worth Rp 3 billion. (iwa)
