DENPASAR: A Greek national could face the death sentence for allegedly smuggling 4.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
In the first session of the trial on Thursday, public prosecutor I Ketut Sujaya declared that the defendant had violated Article 113 of the 2009 Narcotics Law on illegal possession of narcotic drug. Sujaya reminded that the article carried a maximum sentence of death penalty.
The defendant, identified as 36-year-old Nikolaos Bouikidis, was arrested on Oct. 3, 2011, upon his arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport. Customs officers found the illegal drugs hidden inside a cavity in his briefcase.
