Tribun TimurTribun TimurThe Makassar Police say schoolboy H.R.R., 14, was under the influence of alcohol while he drove a car recklessly on Saturday, which resulted in 15 people being injured.

“According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the vehicle was drunk, leading to 15 injured victims,” a Makassar Police investigator who was unwilling to be named said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.

The police said that they had arrested H.R.R. and were questioning him regarding the incident.

According to Makassar Police Traffic chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Muh Hidayat, the boy’s arrest came at the request of his parents who were worried about their son’s safety following the mishap.

“It was the wish of his family, including his parents, for the suspect to be detained at the Makassar Police headquarters as they fear that he might be attacked by others,” he said.

The red Honda Jazz car, which belonged to H.R.R.’s father and allegedly driven by the 14-year-old, was involved in a sequence of five crashes on Jl. Baji Gau, Jl. Cendrawasih, Jl Dangko (at the Hartaco housing complex) and Jl. Dg Tata I in Makassar, South Sulawesi, injuring 15 people, including three motorists and a pedicab driver. (awd/mtq)
