The Jakarta Police has announced that officers investigating a report of a midwifery student being raped have concluded that story was not true.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said that officers were currently deciding how to proceed.
“We will find out which party will be the worst affected as a result of this story before we decide what to do,” Rikwanto told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
When asked about what had happened, Rikwanto said that the student, identified only as JM, had been was too afraid to admit that she had sex with her boyfriend, who was identified as SU, so she said she had been raped by a group of men while waiting for a public minivan in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.
Rikwanto said that police suspicions were heightened when they found out that JM could not direct them to the location of the alleged rape, which she had described as being near train tracks.
“When we summoned SU later on, we began to collect fragments of truth and SU acknowledged that the sexual activity had occurred,” he said.
He said that the police could close their investigation if they found out that no one had been hurt by this case.
The student had earlier filed a report to the South Jakarta Police headquarters that stated she had been raped by at least five people when she was traveling to relative’s house in Pamulang, South Tangerang, Greater Jakarta.
Her story came after a number of rapes inside public minivans were reported across Jakarta.
