The Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced a woman to 30 months’ imprisonment for bribing two officials at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry.

“The defendant is found guilty of violating the Corruption Law,” presiding judge Eka Budi Prijanta said on Monday. “Therefore, we sentence her to two years and six months.”

Dharnawati, an employee at PT Alam Jaya Papua, was found guilty of paying officials Rp 2 billion (US$224,000) to win infrastructure contracts to build resettlement areas in Papua.

The officials, I Nyoman Suisnaya, the ministry’s transmigration area development secretary, and Dadong Irabelawan, its evaluation and report unit chief, are still on trial for allegedly accepting the bribes.

The case has also implicated Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar, who is also chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB). (rpt/mtq)
