‘Bogus’ intelligence agents arrested in Palembang

The South Sumatra Police arrested six people on Tuesday claiming to be State Intelligence Agency (BIN) members. The arrests took place at the seventh Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUIC).
The six men, who were allegedly trying to spy on the conference, were taken to the South Sumatra Police headquarters for further investigation.
South Sumatra Police general crime deputy director Adj. Sr. Comr. Iman Sachroni said that the police were questioning the six men.
“They claimed themselves as members of BIN, but apparently they are not,” he said on Tuesday evening in Palembang, South Sumatra.
The police also confiscated Rp 33 million (US$3,663), three laptops and 13 BlackBerry smartphones. (swd)
