Bank Indonesia (BI) has asked the House of representatives' finance commission to increase its annual budget to cover a planned increase in employee salaries, including those of senior officials, during a closed meeting on Wednesday.
The central bank proposed that Rp 2.13 trillion (US$236.43 million) be allocated to BI this year, a 7.57 percent increase from last year’s Rp 1.98 trillion budget.
Commission deputy chairman Harry Azhar Aziz said that the House had yet to agree to the proposal.
“We want to check every post and find strong reasons why we should do it,” Harry said, as quoted by kontan.co.id on Wednesday.
According to Harry, the lowest salary for a BI worker in 2011 was Rp 2.7 million a month, with the board of governors receiving between Rp 96.8 million and Rp 115.2 million per month.
The BI governor received Rp 153.9 million per month.
Those salaries exclude worker’s leave entitlements, incentives and religious and functional allowances. (swd/dic)
