January inflation stands at 0.76 percent: BPS

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has announced that inflation stood at 0.76 percent in January, up from 0.57 percent in December 2011.
Inflation was recorded in 62 different cities, while deflation was noted in four cities.
The highest rate of inflation in January was recorded in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, with 2.92 percent, while the lowest was in Banda Aceh, Aceh, with 0.02 percent.
“Inflation was the result of price increases of several commodities and products,” BPS interim head Suryamin said on Wednesday.
Food ingredient prices went up by 1.85 percent and the prices of manufactured foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco went up by 0.65 percent.
Prices of housing, electricity, gas and fuel rose by 0.54 percent; healthcare by 0.51 percent; education, entertainment and sports by 0.15 percent; and transportation, communications and financial services by 0.23 percent.
The prices of apparel experienced deflation of 0.08 percent. (mtq)
