The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has announced that Indonesia’s exports fell by 0.22 percent to US$17.20 billion in December 2011 compared with the previous month.
Compared with the same period in 2010, exports in December 2011 had risen 2.9 percent.
Non-oil-and-gas exports amounted to $13.60 billion in December 2011, down by around 0.85 percent from the previous month, but up by 0.19 percent from the figure in December 2010.
Exports of fat oil and animal oil, nearly 100 percent of which consists of crude palm oil, recorded the steepest decline in last December’s non-oil-and-gas exports. Exports fell in December 2011 by $489.9 million from the $2.42 billion recorded the previous month.
Most non-fuel-and-gas exports in December were shipped to China, totaling $2.15 billion, followed by Japan and the United States, with $1.60 billion and $1.29 billion, respectively.
In total, Indonesia’s exports throughout 2011 rose by 29.05 percent to $203.62 billion compared to the previous year. Non-oil-and-gas exports in 2011 went up by 24.88 percent to $162.02 billion compared to 2010.
An economic think-tank, the National Economic Committee (KEN), has warned that exports may continue to decline in 2012 due to the deepening global crisis. (mtq)
