Bad weather has forced an MA-60 aircraft belonging to state-owned airline Merpati Nusantara Airlines to return to Kupang after circling over Mali airport in Alor, East Nusa Tenggara on Thursday.
The flight, number MZ6502 with 30 passengers on board, departed Kupang’s El Tari airport at 8 a.m. local time (7 a.m. Jakarta time) and was scheduled to land in Alor at 9:15 a.m. local time.
“The airplane circled three times but could not land because the fog was pretty thick,” said passenger Linu Kia.
Passengers were stranded at El Tari airport without any certainty as to when they would be able to fly to Alor. A flight by privately-owned TransNusa was also on hold due to the bad weather in Alor. (nvn)
