JAKARTA: City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Thursday that the police would not permit car crash suspect Apriyani Susanti to hold a press conference for a public apology.
“She is a suspect in an ongoing investigation and she’s in custody. She doesn’t have the right to hold a press conference, nor do the police have the authority to grant her one,” Rikwanto told reporters.
“For now, her family and her lawyer can do the public apology for her. If she wants to do it herself, she has to wait until the legal proceedings in her cases have finished,” he said.
Apriyani is the main suspect in the fatal car crash that killed nine and injured four in Gambir, Central Jakarta, last week. She has been in police custody ever since.
She has been charged under the Criminal Code for murder and under the 2009 Traffic Law for fatal reckless driving.
