Haji Incik Muhammad (HIM) Damsyik, one of the most prominent actors in Indonesia in the 1990s, died on Friday in South Jakarta. He was 82.
“Damsyik passed away on Friday at 2 a.m. at Cinere Hospital. May God give the family strength and fortitude,” Bagol, a nephew, said in a Blackberry message as reported by kapanlagi.com on Friday.
Damsyik’s granddaughter Vadia Lidya confirmed the death on her Twitter account @vadialidya. "I just got home from visiting my grandpa, and then I heard the news. RIP HIM Damsyik 1929-2012, bye Grandpa, I will miss you so much," Vadia said.
According to Vadia, Damsyik was in a critical condition at Puri Cinere Hospital, where he was under treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome, formerly known as preleukemia.
Born in Teluk Betung, Lampung, on March 14, 1929, Damsyik, who started his career as a dancer, grabbed the public’s eye when portraying Datuk Maringgih, the villain in the hit 1992 television series Siti Nurbaya. (asa/mtq)
