Polewali Mandar: One man was killed and three others injured in a clash between residents of Mirring and Batetangnga villages in Binuang district, Polewali Mandar regency, West Sulawesi, early Friday morning.

“We have had difficulties in discovering what triggered the clash. Residents have been reluctant [to talk],” Batetangnga village head Sumaila Damang said as quoted by kompas.com.

Dozens of police officers were deployed to Mirring village to investigate and check homes where provocateurs were thought to be hiding.

Officers reportedly detained several witnesses for questioning and arrested one person who was in possession of a long dagger and allegedly involved in the clash. The three men injured in the fracas are undergoing treatment at Polewali Mandar General Hospital while the body of the dead victim, identified as Iwan, is awaiting an autopsy.
