Jayapura: Unidentified gunmen opened fire on four motorcycle taxi drivers in Mulia, the capital of Puncak Jaya regency in Papua, on Thursday, injuring two of them.
Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Wachyono said that one victim, identified as Daeng Yonri, 42, sustained a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. He and his three colleagues were on their way from Wuyukwi to Kulirik village.
At the Kulirik bridge, however, the four were ambushed. Two of them managed to flee. “Daeng Yonri sustained serious injuries and is being treated at Mulia Public Hospital,” Wachyono said, adding that other victim could not be found as of Thursday evening.
Wachyono said police officers assisted by soldiers were hunting down the perpetrators.
