South Jakarta administration tore down nine plush residences in a housing estate in Jagakarsa district next to Situ Babakan, South Jakarta for building permit violations.
“The demolition work is under way,” said South Jakarta administration spokeswoman Anita on Monday.
Anita said the administration had sealed off and bulldozed hundreds of houses which violated the building regulations since 2008.
Anita was quoted by kompas.com as saying that among the violations were the conversion of residential buildings into business and commercial premises.
In the area of Jagakarsa, the municipality only allows residents to build on structures on 30 percent of the land, leaving the remaining 70 percent for open and green spaces.
