The Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta suffered at least Rp 1 billion (US$112,000) in damages as a result of the fire that gutted its central medical unit on the 8th floor on Monday morning.

Hospital director for general affairs Akmal Taher said Monday that the losses excluded damaged equipment.

“Two pieces of equipment were damaged and one bed was burned,” Akmal told a press conference.

Akmal said that the hospital was temporarily unable to conduct hemodialysis procedures due to the incident. However, patients who need the procedures would be referred to other hospitals.

“RSCM will cover the transfer expenses,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

He did not detail how many patients in the hospital underwent hemodialysis treatment at the hospital.

The fire started at 7:00 a.m., burning several beds and dialysis machines. It took 14 fire trucks and 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.

The 8th floor housed the hospital’s treatment center for patients with kidney failure, hypertension and patients who needed hemodialysis. (swd)
