Angelina must be free from interference, says KPK

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has high hopes of gleaning information from suspended Democratic Party official Angelina Sondakh, who has recently been named a suspect in a high profile case centering on the 2011 construction of a SEA Games facility in Palembang, South Sumatra.

KPK deputy chairman Zulkarnaen said that his commission would ensure that the former deputy secretary general of the ruling party would remain untouched from “any possible disturbances,” that may interfere during questioning by investigators.

”We are hoping to get the whole story [from Angelina] without interference from other parties,” Zulkarnain said on Tuesday.

Zulkarnain alluded that the case implicating the former 2001 Miss Indonesia beauty queen to other high profile cases put suspects under the pressure from concerned parties.

“We have witnessed that suspects in such cases at times were pressured by other parties during questioning. Such situations often prompted the Witness and Victim Protection Agency [LPSK] to lend a hand,” he added.

Zulkarnaen asserted that Angelina should be truthful in the investigators.

“What she might have heard and seen, please tell the whole story to our investigators,” Zulkarnaen said as quoted by kompas.com.

Angelina has not been summoned by the anti-graft body after being named suspect on Feb. 2. She is banned from travelling abroad for one year.

The same travel ban has also been issued to Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle lawmaker (PDI-P) and House Budget Committee member Wayan Koster. (asa)
