A fire gutted the two-story General Elections Commission (KPU) office on Jl. Soekarno No.17 in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Tuesday morning, burning important documents and dozens of computers.

No fatalities have been reported yet.

“We could not save most of the office inventory or documents,” KPU Kupang Regency Hans Ch Louk said Tuesday.

Four fire trucks have managed to extinguish the fire by 10 a.m. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The incident disrupted business activities near the area. Dozens of employees working in and around the building left their offices because they worried that the fire might also spread to their workplaces.

Kupang Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Bambang Sugiarto said that the police would investigate the incident. (swd)
