A drug suspect managed to slip through a police dragnet after attacking a middle-ranking police officer who was leading a drug raid conducted on Monday evening in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

NTB Police spokesperson Adj. Comr. R. Sujoko Aman said that the police was conducting a drug raid on a house on Jl. Semangka, Karang Bagu, Karang Taliwang where at least seven people were found to be in possession of drugs.

“The team confiscated three grams of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu. One of them suddenly attacked and stabbed Ekawana in the right shoulder,” said Sujoko, referring to the police team leader Adj. Sr. Comr. IGP Ekawana.

Ekawana survived the attack but sustained a stab wound and received medical treatment.

Sujoko said that police were hunting down the assailant who had yet to be identified.

According to Sujoko, police launched the raid after receiving a tip-off from local residents regarding an alleged drug party at a house on Jl. Semangka, Karang Bagu, Karang Taliwang, Mataram.

“The Mataram Police will pursue the stabbing incident while NTB Police will follow up the drug case,” he said. (swd)
