Oops, prosecutor picks wrong lingerie

JAKARTA: The East Jakarta District Court was forced to postpone a trial on Monday after a prosecutor picked the wrong brassieres and panties to be presented to the panel of judges as material evidence in a lingerie theft case.

The case pits a woman, Dede Juwita, against Samsu Alam, a sailor she knew through Facebook. Their romantic relationship turned sour after Dede accused Samsu of stealing her panties and brassieres last year.

The embarassing episode happened when prosecutor Evnie opened a package she said contained the panties and brassieres to be presented before the judge, the plaintiff, the accused and Samsu’s lawyer as material evidence.

Evnie was visibly embarassed when the items of clothing she drew from the plastic bag turned out to be the wrong evidence to be used for an unrelated case.

“I’m sorry, your honor, I picked the wrong evidence,” Evnie said to presiding judge Herlina Manurung, who then adjourned the trial to Thursday.

Plaintiff Dede told the court that she had lost 15 panties worth Rp 17,500 each and three pairs of brassieres that cost Rp 63,000 apiece in September last year. She said she had no idea until Samsu admitted the lingerie was in his possession.

But Samsu has denied her claim, saying that Dede made up the story, detik.com reported.
