AKARTA: Insurance company PT Asuransi Sinar Mas reported on Monday a written gross premium of Rp 3.73 trillion (US$417.7 million) in 2011, a 14 percent increase compared to last year’s figures.
According to company director Dumasi M.M. Samosir, fire insurance contributed Rp 1.58 trillion in premiums, equal to 42 percent of total gross premium. Meanwhile, automobile insurance contributed Rp 1.14 trillion, or 30 percent of total gross premium, followed by health insurance with Rp 528.29 billion (14 percent), others with Rp 274.38 billion (7 percent), marine cargo and hull with Rp 198.53 billion (5 percent) and engineering premiums with Rp 11.93 billion.
The insurance company also attained a written net premium worth Rp 1.42 trillion last year, or 24 percent higher than 2010. Automobile insurance premiums contributed Rp 784.86 billion to the written net premium, followed by health insurance premiums with Rp 471.29 billion, fire insurance premiums with Rp 69.60 billion, other premiums with Rp 57.89 billion.
“Sinar Mas Insurance has also experienced an increase in profit before tax and in assets in 2011. The profit before tax is Rp 399.41 billion, a 32 percent increase compared to 2010. Meanwhile, assets are worth Rp 3.31 trillion, a 20 percent increase compared to 2010,” Dumasi said.
