The Gajah Mada University (UGM)’s website has been named as the best university website in the country by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

"UGM’s website has seen more viewers due to its increasing visibility and scholars' attendance," UGM public relations department head Wijayanti said on Tuesday.

She said UGM’s website is now ranked 8th in Southeast Asia for its performance, followed by the Bandung Institute of Techonoly (ITB) and University of Indonesia (UI) respectively ranked 9th and 10th. Two other Indonesian universities also made it to the list, which are the Nov. 10 Institute of Technology (ITS), ranked 26th, and the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), ranked 27th.

Webometrics is a university website ranking institute that based its ranking system on considerations of the web’s internal system and content. It does the evaluation twice a year, in January and July, involving around 20,000 universities worldwide.

Wijayanti said however, being named as the Indonesia’s top university website was never really the university’s target.

"For UGM, providing biggest contribution to the nation’s problem solving efforts is what really matters,” she said as quoted by tempo.co.(dic)
