Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum said on Wednesday that Angelina Sondakh, a party lawmaker who has recently been named a suspect in the SEA Games bribery scandal by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), was still the party deputy secretary general.
“The central executive board is still waiting for a decree from the party honorary council. The board will execute whatever decision is determined by the council,” Anas said during the inauguration of Gowa Democratic Party leaders in Gowa, South Sulawesi.
Commenting on rumors saying that the council has yet to sign the decree to suspend Angelina from her post in the party, Anas said that he had yet to find out.
“I have no idea. I’ll check on the update when I get back to Jakarta,” he said, adding that he did not know yet who would replace Angelina.
Anas said that the party had its own mechanisms to dismiss troubled officials. (swd)
