Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia
added 24 new pilots who just graduated from the Bali International Flight
Academy (BIFA) on Wednesday.
The pilots were graduates of the
fifth batch of Garuda pilots who underwent their basic training at BIFA. The
pilots have obtained their Private Pilot License, Commercial Pilot License and
Instrument Rating after 16 months of training, Garuda spokesman Pujobroto said
in a media statement sent to The Jakarta
Post on Wednesday.
The pilots will undergo a further six
months of training to prepare them to fly the assigned aircraft.
Garuda president director Emirsyah
Satar said the airline’s cooperation with BIFA had helped Garuda materialize
its expansion program by providing new pilots.
BIFA chairman Robby Djohan said the
training cooperation with Garuda had seen more than 100 pilots graduate in the
past three years.
Currently, Garuda Indonesia has
more than 1,000 pilots, most of whom pilot the Airbus A330 series and Boeing
737-800 NG. The company will need to recruit 400 more pilots by 2015 to meet its
current expansion plan. (iwa)
