The police counterterrorism unit (Densus *88) has unearthed a weapon belonging to an alleged terrorist, in a forest belonging to the University of Indonesia (UI).
The weapon was planted there by a terrorist suspect who is currently in police custody.
“We received the information from a suspect named Mulyadi, who gave himself up to police last night [Wednesday],” a field operative, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
He said Mulyadi was part of a group once led by Muhammad Ichwan, alias Zulfikar, who was himself arrested last year in Bogor by Densus 88 officers, in possession of a rifle and 50 bullets.
Nawawi, a UI security guard, said he had never expected that the forest, which is located near UI’s School of Engineering campus, would be chosen to hide a weapon.
“I seldom see people near the location; maybe that’s the reason why those people hid the weapon there,” Nawawi said as quoted by kompas.com.
