German-born violinist Iskandar Widjaja and Indonesian female violinist Maylaffayza will team up for a duet in a concert called “Classically in Love” in Titan Center, Bintaro, Tangerang, on Saturday.

“I think it’s a very exciting collaboration. We come from different worlds. I was born and raised in Germany, while she was raised in Indonesia. I am rather into classical music, she is into pop. Yet we create harmony together,” Iskandar told journalists on Thursday.

Issi, as the talented 25-year-old violinist is called, recently performed with German pianist Oliver Kern at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (GKJ) playhouse. The award-winning violinist appeared refreshed after spending four days of vacation in his favorite place – Bali.

Maylaffayza said she would enjoy the collaboration, saying that such a duet was a rare occasion in Indonesia.

The concert, which will help its audience get into the Valentine’s Day mood, is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ticket prices vary from Rp 200,000 (US$22) to Rp 350,000.
