BANDUNG: A 17-strong student team from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is due to participate in the Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) 2012, an academic simulation of the United Nations, in Boston, US, next week.
Delegation head Ahmad Faris Arifin said his team would represent Libya at the simulation, which will be held from Feb. 16 to 19 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel in Massachusetts.
He said they were proud to participate in the event given the fact that the ITB was not an institute with a social science background.
“To represent Libya gives us a challenge because the country has just rid itself of a dictatorship and has complicated internal conflicts,” he said on Thursday.
The Model United Nations aims to educate participants about current events, international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda.
The participants conduct role-plays as diplomats representing a nation or an NGO in a simulated session of an organ (committee) of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly.
