DENPASAR: Every traditional youth organization in Denpasar will receive Rp 3.5 million for making Ogoh-ogoh (large papier mâché dolls) for a competition in March. The city administration has allocated Rp 1.46 billion for 419 youth organizations.
“The making of one Ogoh-ogoh will certainly cost a lot more than just Rp 3.5 million. The cash assistance aims to stimulate youth creativity,” city official IGB Mataram said.
The Ogoh-ogoh parade, traditionally held on the eve of the Hindu new year (Nyepi), has grown to become a massive festival and tourist attraction.
