Surakarta mayor can’t
stand Jakarta’s traffic

Surakarta mayor Joko Widodo, populary known as Jokowi, acknowledged that he couldn’t stand Jakarta’s traffic after being stuck for three and half hours in a taxi headed from Semanggi, Central Jakarta to Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta to attend a dinner sponsored by the Let’s Save Indonesia Community.

State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Dahlan Iskan was also spotted at the dinner.

Jokowi said the situation was totally different back home, where it would only take five minutes to go anywhere in the city, kompas.com reported on Friday.

Jokowi is among a select few expected to step up and declare their candidacy for Jakarta’s upcoming gubernatorial election. He has earned public respect for proving himself as an efficient problem solver, maintaining a corruption-free image, and for his outspoken support of people at the grassroots level.

However, his critics have stated that Joko’s achievements have been small-scale victories, doubting his ability to govern a ‘tough’ place like Jakarta.(cor/dic)
