MEDAN: Motorcycle gangs in Medan, North Sumatra, have reportedly caused public unrest due to widespread vandalism and assault.
Early this week, a gang of motorcyclists attacked and vandalized a fast food eatery on Jl. AH Nasution in Medan. The incident took place at around 9 p.m. local time and lasted 10 minutes, prompting customers to flee in fear. One of them reportedly lost a laptop.
An employee, Edu, said around 30 gang members burst into the restaurant and ransacked the place.
“The visitors were terrified upon seeing the gang ransack the premises. Some of them left while others stayed to watch,” said Edu, adding that it was the second such incident since the restaurant opened.
He expressed hope that the police would clamp down on motorcycle gangs that created unrest in the city.
Deli Tua Police detectives and criminal unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Simone Sembiring said the police were investigating the case and hunting down the gang members. He acknowledged that motorcycle gangs in Medan were a public nuisance.
