Jambi Police say that a man arrested in possession of crystal methamphetamine while attending an event presided over by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Pudak village, Muarojambi, on Friday, also consumed the drug three hours prior to the event.

“He took shabu-shabu [crystal meth] at 5 a.m., three hours before coming to the venue attended by President Yudhoyono,” Jambi Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Almansyah said, referring to the suspect, identified as Sabda Janata bin Jefri Hanter, 26.

Almansyah said police may charge Sabda not only for illegal drug possession but also for his alleged role as a drug dealer.

“However, we need to further question him to substantiate our charges,” Almansyah said.

Muarojambi Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Badaruddin said that Sabda was in possession of six small packets of crystal meth upon his arrest.

Badaruddin said the police were hunting down friends of Sabda who allegedly attended a drug party that morning.

Sabda, who owns a fish stall at Angso Duo traditional market in Jambi, was among the invitees of the fish harvesting event attended by Yudhoyono on Friday.

Sabda was arrested at 8 a.m. after officers from the presidential detail found the drug in his pocket at the security counter.
