149 foreigners arrested in Puncak for not having ID

Some 149 asylum seekers from various countries, including Afghanistan, Somalia and Pakistan, were apprehended during a raid in Cisarua, Bogor, early on Monday. They said that they had come to Indonesia to avoid political conflicts and violence in their home countries. (JP/ Jerry Adiguna) Immigration Directorate General spokesman Maryoto Sumadi says his office has arrested 149 foreigners from various countries who are currently living in Puncak, West Java, for not have identification.
“We’ll check their documents here in Jakarta,” Maryoto told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
He said the foreigners included 99 people from Afghanistan, 4 from Somalia, 3 from Pakistan, one Syrian, one Sudanese and one person from Macau. (aml)
