MALANG: The Transportation Ministry will soon audit the management of all public transporation companies across the country to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and their drivers are qualified.

The ministry would not hesitate to take stern measures by banning all vehicles that turned out to not meet requirements, Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono said at Brawijaya University in Malang, East Java, Monday.

Activities during the audit will include intensifying random checks by officers, either from the police or the ministry.

“This will be conducted at any time. It can be when the vehicles leave the terminal or in the middle of a journey. As soon as a vehicle is found to be not roadworthy, it will be banned from operating,” Bambang said.
