Comment: Orders come for Esemka cars

Although the Kiat Esemka, a car assembled by students of a vocational high school in Surakarta, has not yet passed the roadworthiness test, Surakarta Mayor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo claimed that as of now the administration had received at least 5,000 orders for the vehicle.

It is remarkable. This car, if validated, will be the only vehicle in Indonesia with certification (for what that is worth).

Hundreds of thousands of dangerous cars that are not roadworthy are allowed to travel along Indonesia’s broken roads, threatening their occupants, other road-users and any organism breathing air.
