JP/Jerry Adiguna JP/Jerry Adiguna The lawyer for former prosecutor Cirus Sinaga says an appeal will be lodged in the Supreme Court against a Jakarta High Court ruling that saw his client’s prison sentence remain unaltered.

“I don’t have any reasons why we should back off from this. Thus, we will file an appeal shortly,” Cirus’ lawyer Parlindungan Sinaga told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

He said that he could not comprehend the High Court’s panel of judges’ consideration that his client indirectly obstructed an ongoing investigation into former tax official Gayus Tambunan.

“In my opinion, the allegation is quite confusing,” he said.

He said that he was optimistic that the Supreme Court would have different opinions about this.

The Jakarta High Court decided to uphold the Corruption Court’s sentence of five-years imprisonment and a Rp 150 million (US$16,500) fine, which if left unpaid would see another three months added to Cirus’ prison time.
