Jakarta: Deputy Law and Human Rights Minister Denny Indrayana faces a House summons on the suspicious jailhouse visit that lawmaker Muhammad Nasir paid to his brother, high-profile graft suspect Muhammad Nazaruddin.
“We will ask [Denny] to come tomorrow morning and explain everything he knows about the meeting. We will also need supporting evidence, like the CCTV recordings, as well, to get a more complete picture,” House ethics council chairman Muhammad Prakosa told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
Prakosa said that the council would also summon the warden of Cipinang Penitentiary and other relevant witnesses and would make recommendations to law enforcement agencies if there were indications that a crime was committed.
During a surprise inspection to Cipinang Penitentiary on Friday, Deddy spotted Nasir, Nazaruddin and lawyer Djufri Taufik, among others, meeting in Nazaruddin’s cell outside visiting hours.
Separately, Nasir, a lawmaker of House Commission III overseeing legal issues, said that the visit was not political and was motivated solely by concerns of Nazaruddin’s health.
