ome people may say it is too late to revolutionize the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Ministry. Nevertheless, President Yudhoyono has courageously started to overhaul numerous state companies by streamlining them to become profit-making machines; putting aside desires to keep them as cash cows for uncaring, politically-oriented individuals.

Yudhoyono sees it as a chance to use more capable local workers to make sure that all defense items such as aircraft, ships, tanks and other items for military (as well as civilian) use be manufactured locally.

This is great news for the nation’s professional manufacturers, and is sure to make them more enthusiastic and focus their minds on national economic development.

Very soon our technical experts abroad might find it desirable to come home.

Consequently more employees will be needed to fill the needed jobs producing spare parts and machine components.

There will be no end to this; moreover, our sizable population of workers with their skillful hands will develop the technical knowledge and skills above the present international standard.

Yuhoyono’s homework now is the eradication of corruption, which has become endemic among us. He certainly cannot do it alone; whether we want him to or not. We have to help him in our own way.

Let us wake up, and support the present government in its
efforts to build a self-sufficient nation economically as well as technologically so that we can help other nations.

Yudhoyono can guide us all towards a closer adherence to Pancasila, which has continued to be manipulated by political trends.

The fact that an Indonesian individual like me is willing, caring and daring to criticize the President this much makes me feel we are in good hands.
