I won’t quit: Boediono

JAKARTA: Vice President Boediono has denied a rumor saying that he would step down from his post due to his involvement in the Bank Century bailout saga.
“I can see the huge question mark in your head. But no, I’m not resigning,” Boediono said as quoted by kompas.com.
The State Palace also issued a statement denying the rumor on Friday.
Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said that Boediono had never discussed a plan for him to resign with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
“It is not true that the President wanted Pak Jusuf Kalla to replace him [Boediono] as vice president,” Julian said.
Politicians have accused Boediono, then governor of Bank Indonesia, of being one of those most responsible for the controversial bailout of Bank Century in 2008.
Boediono is considered the most culpable in the bailout because an investigation found that the case had originated with Bank Indonesia’s lack of prudent supervision of the troubled bank.
Earlier this month, Yudhoyono named Boediono as the head of a team tasked with recovering assets of Bank Century believed to be held overseas.
The team, which was established by a Presidential regulation issued last month, consists of Law and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin, State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and Attorney General Basrief Arief.
