Young actor/singer Irwansyah will
follow in the footsteps of other senior artists who have tried their luck in politics
by planning to run as vice regent. Irwansyah will be paired with Yanuar in the
upcoming Tangerang regent election.
They plan to run as independent
candidates in the 2013 Tangerang election.
“We want to introduce ourselves to
our partisans in 29 districts and hopefully we can collect support,”
26-year-old Irwansyah said on Saturday, as quoted by Antara news wire.
Irwansyah and Yanuar held an
introductory meeting with supporters at the Bukit Telaga Bestari housing
complex in Wanakerta village in Sindang Jaya on Saturday.
Artists who have successfully
become heads of regions include West Java Vice Governor Dede Yusuf,
recently-resigned Garut Vice Regent Dicky Chandra and East Tanjung Jabung
Regent Zumi Zola.
Several other artists have made
their way into the House of Representatives, such as Tantowi Yahya of the
Golkar Party and Angelina Sondakh from the Democratic Party. Angelina is currently
in the spotlight for her alleged involvement in a major graft case surrounding
the Southeast Asian Games’ athletes’ village in Palembang,
South Sumatra. (iwa)
