TRIBUNNEWS.COM/FELIX JODY KTRIBUNNEWS.COM/FELIX JODY KThe trial of former prosecutor Sistoyo, who allegedly took bribes worth Rp 100 million (US$11,000) from businessman Edward Bunjamin through his staff member Anton Hadyono, begins on Monday at the West Java Corruption Court in Bandung.

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor Ketut Sumedana stated that Sistoyo had violated the Anti Corruption Law by accepting a bribe and thus faced up to 20 years in prison if proven guilty.

“The maximum punishment for receiving bribes is 20 years in prison,” Ketut said.

He went on to say that the prosecutors had sufficient evidence to prove that Sistoyo had received money in order to lower his recommended sentence for Edward Bunjamin, a businessman who stood trial over allegations of fraud.

Sistoyo’s lawyer, Firman Wijaya, insisted that his client had been framed.

“He did not receive any bribe. He was framed,” Firman said.

The three, Sistoyo, Edward and Anton, were arrested last year by KPK investigators in the parking lot of Sistoyo’s office in Cibinong, West Java.
