JAKARTA: A joint team of South Jakarta transportation officers and precinct police clamped the tires of 15 private cars parked illegally and ticketed the owners during a joint operation on Monday.
The enforcement unit chief at the transportation office, Anggiat Banjarnahor, said the operation was carried out along Jl. Kapten Tendean, Jl. Wijaya and Jl. Prapanca.
“Ten cars were parked around the South Jakarta municipality office, of which seven of the owners were ticketed on the spot, while five other cars that were clamped were parked on Jl. Wijaya,” he said.
Security guards in the neighborhood protested the operation, saying the cars parked on the road near the municipality office belonged to residents of Jl. Pulo Raya, which had flooded over the weekend.
The head of the transportation office, Nurhayati Sinaga, said the car owners should have removed their cars from the no-parking zone as the floodwater had started to recede.
“The flood has already abated. They should have taken the cars home so as not to disrupt traffic,” she said.
