Tribunnews.comTwo residents of Jl. Kelapa Dua, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Slalindar Andri Wibowo, 24, and Dedi Supriyadi, 26, died after sustaining severe burns all over their bodies after being covered with acid as part of a lesson to master immunity against weapons.
“They [Andri and Dedi] learned to master a weapon-resistant skill. But when acid was poured on them, they were severely injured,” the victims' sister, Lisa Faja Riana, 20, told reporters while viewing their bodies at the Cipto General Mangunkusumo Hospital’s morgue on Tuesday.
Lisa said that Andri and Dedi along with two other friends, Oman and Hendra, aka Bolot, went to Serang, Banten, on Saturday evening, to look for someone to teach them ilmu kebal (immunity against weapons).
Banten is popularly known for a traditional performance, called debus, in which a performer demonstrates their skill to resist weapons and fire.
“But Andi told his wife that he went to a prayer gathering to learn religion instead,” Lisa recalled. Lisa said that the family of the victims was informed about the incident on Sunday evening after one of the victims' friends phoned to inform them that both were dead and their bodies were in a hospital in Serang.
“Andri is survived by a wife and a 3-year-old child, while Dedi has a two-month-old baby,” Lisa was quoted as saying by kompas.com.
